Refinished picture frames

wpid-frame-paint.jpg.jpeg

Refinishing picture frames is a great way to inexpensively create a gallery wall.  Everyone has picture frames around. Usually they are all different sizes and colors.  A can of spray paint can make them look like they all belong together regardless of different styles.
First, gather up you frames.
Next, pick a favorite spray paint. There are so many choices out there if you haven’t shopped for spray paint lately. I chose a can of hammered spray paint.  It has a nice tecture when it dries.

Simply open the frame and take out the glass.   Replace the glass with a piece of paper and spray!

Let them dry and you are ready to create a gallery wall.  When deciding how to hang your pictures it is always a good idea to lay them out on the floor first so you can move them around until you have them how you want them.

DIY Lantern

wpid-lanterns-and-stones.jpg.jpeg

Lanterns are everywhere in the stores, but can be very costly.  Here is a very simple DIY lantern project.  It can honestly be made in 30 minutes or less and they cost about $2.50 each.

A quick trip to the dollar store, and you will have everything you need.

Floral wire is extremely easy to manipulate. Simpley wrap the wire around the glass until it looks the way that you want it to. If you do not have tools, you can bend the wire easily by hand and use wire cutters to trim the excess.

Simpley make loops with the ends of the wire.

When I made the taller lantern, I created the handle out of the same wire I wrapped around the glass, so it stands up straight.

Add your desired fill and a candle and your project is complete!  The dollar store carries the pebbles I purchased as well as glass pieces in a variety of colors.  My mom made hanging lanterns for my sister’s wedding.  She even added crystals to the bottom.  The would work perfectly on a small garden hook along a pathway.

Diy Photo Gallery

DIY gallery wall

These vinyl sayings are everywhere in the stores, and I love them.

However, I felt they needed something more than just the words on the wall.  So, I created a mini gallery.  These are pictures of our wedding day, our parents wedding days, and our grandparents wedding days.  When possible, it was the cake cutting picture and they were all placed in silver frames on the cake table at my wedding years ago.  I loved them and thought they would be perfect in my dining room.  The saying I chose fits because thats really what starts it all, isn’t it?

DIY Cake Plate

I first saw this cake plate on this lovely blog, and I had to have it for my son’s birthday party.  For this DIY project, I headed to the dollar store.

I purchased a round aluminum pizza pan with sides to hold the beads, several bags of pony beads (they came in different color assortments, so I chose the ones that worked for me), and a small ceramic flower pot.  You will also need to purchase silicone to glue the flower pot to the cake plate when it is complete.

When you put the beads in the pan make sure it is full so that the plate will be thick enough to hold a cake!

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees and bake the cake plate for 30-40 minutes or until all of the beads are melted.  As a word of caution, I would do this project on a warm day when you can open all of the windows, melting plastic does not have a good smell.  Let it cool for 20 minutes or so and it will come right out.  Allow it to cool completely and silicone the flower pot base to the cake plate.  Then, top it with your favorite cake!!
